About the event

Participants will have the opportunity to construct a denim tote bag from a recycled pair of jeans provided by the Mad Patcher. They’ll take home a complete denim tote bag with a shoulder strap and new skills on upcycling and how to use a sewing machine! We will have a variety of recycled jeans available so you can find your perfect match! This class is beginner friendly for ages 10 and up. We’ll have machines available for participants but if you have one lying around at home we encourage you to bring it in and we’ll help familiarize you with it so you can use it at home. We’ll teach about the negative impacts of fast fashion and the importance of sustainability and how easy it can be to decrease your textile waste!

10% of all proceeds from this event will go towards the Trevor Project! The Trevor Project is a nonprofit organization that provides 24/7 virtual support and counseling via phone call or text for LGBTQ+ youth who are struggling with coming out, personal identity, depression, and suicide. The Trevor Project is also a huge advocate for LGBTQ+ rights and they conduct research specific to LGBTQ+ issues to present to policymakers to highlight the need for protective laws and rights for queer individuals. Support, visibility, and education are the main pillars of the Trevor Project and we’re very happy to support such a great nonprofit.
