About the event
Participants are invited to bring their own garments from home for hemming or cropping at The Mad Patcher Store at Elkhart Lake’s Historic Depot. Our team will be there to guide you through the process and provide any materials or equipment you need to adjust the length of one of your garments to perfection. This workshop is suitable for all skill levels, with more advanced individuals encouraged to expand further on their projects within the given time.
Domestic engagement in sewing in the U.S. is only 15% of what it was in 1985, and it’s due to fast-fashion companies creating an industry where it is easier/cheaper to buy brand-new garments than to repair them. At The Mad Patcher, we know exactly how important it is for the next generation to preserve these skills in order to live a sustainable lifestyle and not feed into the environmental devastation that comes with fast fashion consumption. We hope to help the community equip themselves with as many of these important skills as possible, so they can do their part in fighting fast fashion too.
Guided by our founder, Baxter Salzwedel, this is the perfect opportunity to refresh your skills, tailor a garment to your liking, and come talk about the evolving world of sustainable fashion.
